Designing your home for a second life can be achieved in several ways.

The build-up and under approach is an excellent way to maintain the original character of the house and comply with Heritage regulations. Building up can also take advantage of stunning new vistas and capture cooling breezes.

The preferred approach to raise and build under involves reconfiguring the upper level. With bedrooms and bathroom upstairs access by an internal staircase, while the new ground level becomes the central living area.

Depending on the extent of the project works, town planning approval may not be required. However, most raise and build projects will require council building approval.
